I want to share my experience with Astoria Animal Society so other pet owners can be cautious. I brought my healthy three-year-old male cat here to be neutered. I was instructed to drop him off and return 4–5 hours later. When I picked him up, he was extremely weak, which I initially assumed was normal after surgery. However, I immediately noticed he had a very strong smell of urine. He did not smell like this when I dropped him off, and it concerned me. Over the next few days, although he was eating, he remained unusually weak and disoriented. At one point, he couldn’t even find his way onto the sofa. A week later, I noticed his scrotal area was severely swollen. As a first-time cat owner, I wasn’t sure what was normal, but something clearly didn’t feel right. I contacted the clinic multiple times by phone and email, but responses were delayed and I felt my concerns were not taken seriously. Eventually, I took him to another veterinary hospital for a second opinion. I was told he had developed a severe post-surgical infection, significant swelling, a 102°F fever, had lost a pound, and was in considerable pain. I am extremely upset that my healthy cat ended up with a serious infection following what should have been a routine procedure. Based on my experience, I strongly encourage other pet owners to ask detailed questions, monitor their pets closely after surgery, and consider all options carefully before choosing a clinic. I hope sharing this helps someone avoid a similar situation.

All staff were incredibly rude and the vet didn’t seem to know what she was doing or how to handle a cat. Facilities weren’t all that clean either with stains left everywhere. Overall wouldn’t recommend and suggest you go elsewhere.
